It was a sunny spring day in April of 2012 when Chuck Meadows took his two young daughters to visit their cousin, Willie Adams, on his 90-acre farm in Greene County, Georgia. Willie's grandfather, Jim Adams, bought the land in the early 1900's after growing up on his parents' farm just a few miles away. Almost a century later, Willie was still growing vegetables on the same land.
it was during that visit that Chuck would come to better appreciate the multi-generational farming history in his family - and realize that there was no one in the next generation set to carry on the legacy. Something else also stood out - Willie was growing crops in raised beds set up on the old concrete foundations of what used to be large chicken coops, and that helped sparked an idea: If crops could grow on concrete in Greene County, the same could be done back in Atlanta, where the demand for access to locally grown, healthy foods was beginning to grow.
Jim Adams Farms & Jim Adams Farm & Table is in many ways an experiment. We have set out to prove that the old-fashioned way - when people are connected directly to the food they eat - is not only better, but also financially viable. Jim Adams Farms includes the "home" farm in Greene County, as well as an urban farm in Atlanta's Pittsburgh neighborhood, just a couple of miles south of downtown Jim Adams Farm & Table is a storefront in Atlanta's Riverside neighborhood, where we sell honey produced on our urban farm, fruits and vegetables from ours and other local farms, and offer a broad menu of soups, salads, sandwiches and more.
